I have 3:

1) The Moon

For Cacof Posted by Hello

It was mesmerizing. “Lunar halo” it is called according to my encyclopedia of heavenly bodies. Chilly, there was a gossamer drape of ice enveloping the Tokyo air last night, as usual I was still awake at 3 in the morning. I went outside to greet the stars like I always do when I’m inspired or experiencing neurosis osmosis, which often occurs in the depth of the night or just right before dawn. And then there she was big and in her fullness, there was a ring of rainbow around her extremely bright and almost blinding. It frightened me at first glance because she looked ominous, like a presage of doom or as if something pernicious is afoot. Then I talked to her, “you look particularly fancy tonight in your colorful robe, sister Moon”. And I couldn’t take my eyes off her anymore I became under her powerful spell. I was magnetized, mesmerized, hypnotized. First time I saw her like this.

This photo of her is for you my dearest friend. May you radiate like the moon, illuminate like the moon, bring guidance like the moon, mesmerize like the moon.

2) A song

Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Cryin’

Don’t let the sun catch you cryin’
The night’s the time for all your tears
Your heart may be broken tonight
But tomorrow in the morning light
Don’t let the sun catch you cryin’
The night-time shadows disappear
And with them go all your tears
For the morning will bring joy
For every girl and boy
So don’t let the sun catch you cryin’
We know that cryin’s not a bad thing
But stop your cryin’ when the birds sing
It may be hard to discover
That you’ve been left for another
But don’t forget that love’s a game
And it can always come again
Oh don’t let the sun catch you cryin’
Don’t let the sun catch you cryin’, oh no
Oh, oh, oh

(the one rendered by Jose Feliciano is the one I like the best)

How love blossoms between you and your child

By Chris Woolston

The bond between parent and child is one of the strongest connections in nature. Romances come and go, but once you’ve bonded with your baby you’re probably hooked for life, and not because you enjoy the prospect of changing thousands of diapers. Clearly, children have the ability to reach deep into our brains as well as our hearts.

The love you feel for your child isn’t just intellectual or cultural — it’s a basic part of your makeup. In recent years, scientists have started to explore this mysterious but crucial part of human nature. Their findings help explain why babies are so addictive and why we deeply love our older children, tantrums, arguments, and all. The bond will change over the years, but its importance never fades. Your child needs love like he needs food. And, even if you’re a little nervous about parenthood, you’ll be ready to give him the love he needs. After all, you have biology on your side.

Don’t be surprised to find yourself loving your baby before you even meet. A potent mix of emotions, expectations, and powerful mommy hormones kicks in during pregnancy, setting the stage for your relationship with your child.

While you’re daydreaming about your baby and picking out names, your body is already laying the foundation for a strong emotional bond. And as your due date nears, your brain starts producing more and more oxytocin, a hormone that literally helps bring out the mother in you. Also known as the love hormone, oxytocin turns on maternal behavior like nuzzling and grooming in animals from rats to monkeys. For now, it helps keep you calm while intensifying your anticipation of your new baby.

Oxytocin has attracted serious scientific interest in recent years. Animal studies suggest that it plays a huge role in all sorts of social behaviors, from raising babies to forming long-term relationships. Animals that don’t produce oxytocin ignore their offspring and find different mates every season. Species that do make the hormone tend to be doting parents that form lasting bonds with their mates. So when your body starts pumping out oxytocin during pregnancy, it’s as if love is coursing through your veins.

Your baby is also developing a bond with you, even in the womb. Studies show that his heart will beat a little faster at the sound of your voice. It’s something that will excite and comfort your child now and for years to come.

The Acid-thrower

Filed under: general — atinna @ 8:01 pm

Acid thrower. Posted by Hello

Meet the acid-thrower, her eyes huge and intent and
the bubbling bowl of acid in her hand represents those supposedly feminine failings of hysteria and jealousy; of envy, spite and ill will; and pure woman madness. As much as there is “angel” in each (all) of us, there is also “acid-thrower”.

When I saw this painting by Eugene Grasset in a museum in Zurich a few years ago I instantly liked it so I bought an A4-size replica with the thought that I would hang it on Luiji’s workroom’s wall but it had gotten misplaced until it resurfaced the other day when I was streamlining my stack of old magazine and newspaper clippings.

are you an acid-thrower?
